Mystique, noun: a fascinating aura of mystery, awe, and power surrounding someone or something. If this definition doesn't capture the tremendous allure of the offered 1999 Fleer Mystique Masterpiece 1 of 1 Derek Jeter, then we don't know what will. The offered card has been graded PSA 10 Gem Mint after having been recently crossed from a BGS 9.5 Gem Mint holder. Importantly, unlike some of the Fleer Ultra 1 of 1 Masterpiece parallels from the late 1990s and early 2000s, there have been no reports of a duplicate copy of this sensational card stemming from Fleer's file copies that were released after its bankruptcy. With its refractor-like chromium front finish and regal purple foil accents, the card is a visual feast for the eyes, and it is perfect in every regard, having been verified as Gem Mint by both PSA and BGS.

Although rather ubiquitous in today's hobby, in which hundreds if not thousands of 1 of 1s of any given player can be counted each year, the 1 of 1 concept began in 1997 with Flair's groundbreaking Showcase Legacy Masterpiece 1 of 1, the only 1 of 1 produced that year. In 1998, the concept spread to other brands and other manufacturers, with Derek Jeter appearing on approximately 15 different cards that were legitimate 1 of 1s. By 1999, that number grew considerably, but the offered card should still be considered as one of The Captain's first ever Masterpiece 1 of 1s.

Importantly, to the best of our knowledge, the offered card is the only Derek Jeter 1 of 1 Masterpiece from the 1990s insert era to ever grade PSA 10 Gem Mint. While we might have missed a few issues in our scan of PSA's population reports from 1998 and 1999, the winning bidder can rest assured that this 1999 Mystique Derek Jeter 1 of 1 Masterpiece is absolutely unique and will forever fascinate its future owners with mystery, awe, and power.
